So, I removed some agencies from the scanner's online livestream roster. Specifically, I removed the following:
I did this to improve both the dwelling visitor's audio experience, and, to focus exclusively on the campaign's namesake (Buffalo) agencies.
All remaining feeds are all Buffalo proper police and fire agencies only.
With respect to the problematic audio quality, my physical scanner sits beyond the solid receiving range of the removed agencies which means that all were woefully undermodulated or inconsistent at best.
Unfortunately, I do foresee a day not too far off when I will be removing the livestream, or, at least, the Buffalo Police Department from it.
Again owing to possibly a poor receiving location or perhaps me not having the best digital scanner, the Buffalo Police Department's radio traffic is often unintelligble and inconsistent. There was a time last month or so for example when for no reason at all, none of their broadcasts were coming through. I find this is often due to bad weather and factors I don't understand. When it rains or whatever, I suspect, things just get plain old skitzy.
More crucially though - the reason I don't actually spend too much energy tackling the technical problems - is that if you remember, I want to transition this campaign toward replacing police scanning with something else so that actual police scanning need no longer exist as a foundation to the craft of citizen event documentation and distribution.
We need our own radio network and our own feet on the ground.
All that being said, regarding the removed agencies, if you are interested in continuing to listen in on them, here are the Broadcastify links to online feeds. They are pretty solid and technically more sound. In fact Amherst PD seems to be doing the community a solid by managing their own feed.
