Am I credited with submmitted content that you ultimately publish?
Yes. As an explicit advocate of decentralized media content processing, the entire point is to specifically credit the indviduals or entities that participate in signal flow. If you run your own scanner community group in social media somewhere, submissions are a great way to "advertise" your group over BuffScan channels. You will be credited and thanked unless you request otherwise. This is true for submitted content with waived payments as well.
Can I still share my content elsewhere?
Yes - BuffScan doesn't purchase "exclusive" rights. If BuffScan opts to use your submission you are still free to submit it elsewhere including to other websites or social media channels and outlets. Your only concern should be on what terms you do that under. If you attempt to sell "exclusively" to other outlets later you may not be able to.
Can I submit without getting paid?
Well first, thank you for wondering (fist bump). And yes, you can absolutely submit your content to BuffScan without expecting payment in several ways:
- You can use the submission form you would normally use to submit content to the website and simply cllick "Waive Payment"
- You can simply share, DM, or otherwise communicate your content to the BuffScan X or Facebook Page accounts which will imply permission to use your media just as if you had completed the website submission form and clicked "Waive Payment"
- You can post it as a member of the BuffScan Desktop Community Platform. Permission to use without payment will be implied just as if you had posted to another social media platform or had clicked "Waive Payment" on the website submission form.
Your altruism is actually the norm within the spotter/citizen journalist community as most interesting content is shared freely.
How do I receive payment?
BuffScan pays out via Venmo. It is easy to create an account there.
That being said, an attempt will be made via email in some cases to arrange an alternative payment method. If BuffScan is highly motivated by your submission it will reach out by e-mail to discuss those alternatives. That being said, if Venmo or other alternatives cannot be arranged to the point of completed transaction within 24 hours BuffScan will not use or lay claim to submitted content.
